Laser Measurement

Laser measurement uses lasers to measure the distance between two objects indirectly. It is useful for applications such as 3D scanning and laser cutting, though it can also measure distances in other contexts.

Laser measurement tools fall into two categories: those that use a single laser and those that use multiple lasers. Some laser line scanners, such as the coherence scanning system (CSS), are inexpensive and easy to use. In contrast, others are more expensive but provide higher accuracy. Laser triangulation scanners are typically more expensive than CSSs because they require more complex hardware and software components.

Some applications where laser measurement is helpful include 3D scanning (which uses three-dimensional scans of objects), laser cutting (which cuts materials using lasers), and metrology (measuring parts with precision).
