Digital Depth Gages

Digital depth gages are useful tools for any shop or technician who does precision work. Though they can measure anything from the thickness of sheets to the size of holes, their most popular applications are in machining, manufacturing, and quality control.

There are two main types of digital depth gages: contact and non-contact. Contact depth gages work by making contact with the measured object. They use a probe that measures its distance from a fixed point on the device’s base. Non-contact depth gages use lasers or other light-based technology to measure distance without touching the measured object.

Contact depth gages are best for applications where you need to measure things like sheet thicknesses or hole sizes. Non-contact depth gages are better for applications where you need to measure things like thread pitch or screw diameters because they don’t require physical contact with your object.
