Height Gages

Height gages measure the height of a surface. They’re typically used in industrial settings to measure the height of a particular part or to check that two surfaces match up perfectly.

Height gages come in several different types. But all of them measure using a probe attached to a vertical arm. The probe goes against each surface, and the arm raises until it’s level with both surfaces. It then measures how far down the arm moved by using an electronic sensor inside the probe or arm itself.

The best applications for height gages for checking the relative heights of two things. For example, if you want to ensure that two pieces of metal are exactly the same height before welding them together. You could also use a height gauge when doing precision work with wood or metal. They make it easier to see where everything perfectly lines up before cutting or joining pieces together.
